History:

With the start of the Malayan Emergency in 1948, there was a drastic need for local Malayans to be involved in internal security. The Malayan Home Guard was formed that year as an auxiliary force to complement the security forces and the police in maintaining safety in towns and villages, providing safety from infiltration and aggression from Communist Guerrilla fighters.

This badge was presented to any member of the Home Guard that has served at least three (3) months' service and was presented to serving members of each force by Senior Officers at special parades.
