Order of the Star of India
History:
The Most Exalted Order of the Star of India is an order of chivalry founded by Queen Victoria in 1861 for the Indian Empire (Sometimes referred to as the British Raj).
Designed as an order of chivalry to award and honour the highest members of British Raj society, such as the Indian Princes and Chiefs, it was also awarded to colonial officers and administrators serving in India. As the highest Indian honour, it was also used to symbolise British India itself, appearing in badges and flags representing the colony.
No appointments have been made since the 1948 New Year Honours, shortly after the Partition of India in 1947.
